June 1—Peace: Submissions are due for the 2001Swackhamer Peace Essay Contest, for high school students, sponsored bythe Nuclear Age Peace Foundation, an international educationalorganization. Students must submit essays of 800 to 1,200 words on thetheme "Your choice for the most important peace hero of the 20thcentury," supporting their choices and describing the qualities thatmake the person selected a peace hero. Description The NAPF Swackhamer Peace Essay Contest is open to all high school students

was founded by the Nuclear Age Peace Foundation in 2000. It is one of the few nationally sustained peace programs involving high school and college students in the United States. Youth Empowerment Initiative’s activities include the Barbara Mandigo Peace Poetry Contest, the Internship and Volunteer programs, and over a dozen Peace Leadership trainings.
